It should come as no surprise that one of the most common questions women face prior to breast augmentation is, “How big is too big?” When it comes to breast implants in Indiana, the answer is highly personal. It depends on a person’s body type, her cosmetic needs and her surgeon’s recommendations.

During a breast augmentation consultation, I analyze a patient’s body type to determine what size implants will produce the most natural looking results. The woman’s shoulders, chest frame and height are all taken into account when making this decision. From here, I typically present a range of implant options from which the patient can choose.

Patients should also be aware of how an implant’s profile can affect the final result. Profile refers to the amount of projection from the base. The wider the chest frame, the lower the profile I usually recommend. In addition, implants can be placed either behind or in front of the pectoral muscle, depending on the degree of enhancement desired.

One of the most important factors in determining the size of the implants is how you would like to look after surgery. Although I offer my recommendations, the decision is ultimately up to the patient. If you are considering breast augmentation, it’s important to think about how much enhancement you’re looking for prior to scheduling a consultation.

If you feel you need guidance in choosing the size of your breast implants, I recommend speaking with a qualified surgeon in your area.
